Super B: Brighton Elevator

Client: The Hyde Group | Denne Construction | BHCC

Project: Super B | Public Glass + Balustrades

Material: Glazing manifestations

Date: 2014

Following an extensive period of research during which imagery and graphics were collected from around the city that took inspiration from Brighton’s architecture, cultural heritage, the railway, and the city’s unique location nestled between coast and countryside.

These elements were combined to create a site specific artwork that celebrates Brighton both urban and rural, its vibrant identity past and present and the sites connection to the railway.

The design wrapped colour and graphics around the lift shaft and flowed onto the balustrades. It incorporated imagery of the area from Victorian postcards, juxtaposed alongside present-day graphics from around the city and bespoke patterns inspired by local architecture, the West Pier and railway maps.
