‘Passing Lights’
Design of artworks for a purpose-built Maternity Bereavement Suite.
A design concept and wall colour scheme based on the theme of ‘light within the landscape’ was informed through workshops with parents who had previously used the service.
The designs were applied throughout the self-contained unit onto wallpaper, glazing and framed prints based on Meadow, Forest, Sea and Sky scapes.
Each artwork application was devised to layer and compliment each other, with wallpapers light interacting in each landscape and forming the basis of a gentle back-drop onto which shadows and reflections were cast from artwork on adjacent windows.
Details from each landscape including long grass and meadow flowers, silver birch bark markings, scatterings of pine needles, clouds and seaweed flowed across glazed areas within the suite.
In keeping with the theme of light, a series of prints for each room were created, that included imagery from cyanotypes, also known as sun prints. A selection of photographs that were produced during the research phase were also framed and displayed within the lobby area.
The paint colour scheme developed for the walls within each room was created to harmonize with the artworks.
